Surya Mudra - Mudra of the Sun


Aloha Everyone,

The Surya Mudra, also known as the Ravi Mudra, is the Mudra of the Sun.

Category -  Hasta Mudras (Hand mudras)

Position - Your hands are in front of your body or resting lightly on your knees depending on how this mudra is used in your meditation.  Bend the ring finger of each hand and let its finger tip press gently on the mound of your thumb.  Fold your thumb over the ring finger of each hand.  Try to maintain that the remaining fingers are extended straight at all time.

Specialty - The Surya Mudra helps decrease the earth element and increase the fire element in the body. It is effective in regulating the metabolism and body temperature.
Benefits – Helps your body increase its temperature and thus raises the metabolism and help fight common colds.  Helps reduce the accumulated fat unwanted cholesterol in body thus helps in weight loss and helps correct indigestion problems.  The sun (surya) is a symbol of brilliance and energy.  Practice of this mudra also helps remove fatigue, lethargy, laziness and dullness.
