Bear Grip Mudra


Aloha Everyone,

Category - Hasta Mudras (Hand mudras)

Position – Bring both hands in front of your chest but not touching your body.  The right hand faces the body and the left hand faces the palm of the right hand. The right thumb is pointing straight up while the left thumb points straight down.  Interlock the fingers of both hands, elbows up. 

Technique -  Inhale, try to pull your hands apart as powerfully and as long as you are able to while your breath is held in.  Exhale, relax your arms, your elbows will naturally come down.  Inhale elbows lifted, pull your hands apart as powerfully and as long as you are able to while holding your breath; exhale relax your arms, bring your elbows down.  Repeat this cycle for 1 minute to begin.  Eventually increase the total time to 3, 5, up to 7 minutes.  To end, deep inhalation,  bring your hands on your lap, palms facing up with index fingers and thumbs touching (Gyan Mudra), full exhalation, release your mudra.

Specialty – Stimulate the heart.

Benefits – Strengthens the heart, protection for heart related diseases, intensify concentration

Linga Mudra - Mudra of Heat and Energy



Aloha Everyone,

The Linga Mudra is the mudra of heat and energy.

Category -  Hasta Mudras (Hand mudras)

Position – Bring the palms together in front of your heart pressing them gently.  Then interlock the four fingers keeping the thumb of the left hand vertical.  To complete this mudra, encircle the thumb of the left hand with the index finger and the thumb of the right hand.

Specialty – Generates heat and energy in our body, helps relieve chest congestion. 

Benefits – Energizes and revitalizes your body, helps combat severe cold and bronchial infections, helps strengthen the lungs make them powerful, if practiced longer, Linga Mudra can cause your body to sweat and give you a good workout.

Apana Vayu Mudra - Mudra of the Heart



Aloha Everyone,

The Apana Vayu Mudra is the mudra of the heart.

Category - Hasta Mudras (Hand mudras)

Position – Press gently the tip of the middle finger and ring finger to the tip of the thumb.  While tip of the index finger touches the base of the thumb.  Keep the little finger (pinky) straight.

Specialty – .Primarily helps the heart.  Apana Vayu Mudra is used for heart patients and people with high or low blood pressures.

Benefits – Helps improve the health and strength of the heart.  Daily practice also helps regulate excretory systems and restores the gas related problems in your body.

Position – Press gently the middle and the ring finger tips to the tip of the thumb.  Other two fingers should be straight.

Varuna Mudra - Mudra of Water

The Varuna Mudra is the mudra of water.

Category - Hasta Mudras (Hand mudras)

Position - Bring the tip of the thumb and the tip of the little finger together, press them gently.  Keep the other three fingers straight.

Specialty – This mudra is used as a remedy for several disorders of the liver.  Varuna Mudra balances the water content in your body and found to be effective in preventing diseases which come due to deficiency of water.

Benefits – Water constitutes about eighty-five percent of our body.  Reduction of water level disturbs the body functions. Varuna Mudra retains clarity in blood by balancing water content in the body. It also prevents the pain and stiffness in the body as well as prevents muscle shrinkage.

The Prithvi Mudra is the mudra of earth.  This mudra helps in activating the root chakra. The root chakra holds the elemental force of vital energy. Deficiency of minerals and vitamins causes weakness in the body.

Position - Hold the tip of the ring finger perpendicular on to the tip of the thumb with applying a subtle pressure.  Remaining three fingers are stretched.

Shunya Mudra - Mudra of Emptiness

The Shunya Mudra is the mudra of emptiness.

Category -  Hasta Mudras (Hand mudras)

Position - The middle finger rests on the mound of your thumb.  Bend your thumb and gently press down the middle finger. Try to maintain the remaining fingers straight and extended up.

Specialty - This mudra helps with conditions related to hearing.

Benefits - It helps in relieving an earache, ringing noises in the air.  This mudra is also used in overcoming travel sickness or vertigo.  If practiced regularly, Shunya Mudra helps reduce the dullness in our body.
